What is your favourite rod?

What is your favourite rod?

Postby Roger_Fogg » Wed Oct 28, 2009 10:01 am

A friend asked me recently what my favourite rod was, I had to give it some thought - and I am still thinking about it! It was easy to tell him what the worst rod was that I had ever used. It came from a famous maker though I will withold the maker's name. G.E.M. Skues was definite as to his favourite rod - a nine-foot, three-piece Leonard which he called 'WBR' (World's Best Rod) - but I suppose that I am still searching for the perfect rod, the kind of all-rounder that I could take anywhere and really love. I do have preferred rods for different techniques and waters but I have still to find the ultimate rod, that's why I keep buying them! Help me out here - what are your favourites? What is your personal 'WBR'?

I think the golden rule is avoid very stiff powerfull blanks as they do not make good wet fly rods.
Favorite rods are Bamboo and made to a PHY taper

I have a favourite rod . I like the Daiwa Lochmore 10 foot 7#.
I am mainly fishing the River Wear these days and the Teesdale reservoirs Balderhead, Cow Green and Selset.
I catch Ten inch brownies and 13 pound Sea-Trout with this rod. I will fish Cow-Green in the day for wild browns with the Lochmore and call in for an evening for the Wear Sea Trout.
I paid £120 pound when it came on the market and i would not part with this rod :D PB
